Dr. Charisse Balance, DPT, RYT
Physical Therapist | Registered Yoga Teacher
Charisse offers a balance of her two favorite worlds - physiotherapy and yoga. As a yogi, she incorporates an individualized holistic approach to treatment- addressing the body, mind and spirit. As a Physiotherapist, Charisse is able to inform these offerings with the science of movement, biomechanics, kinesiology and anatomy. She has a deep respect for the entirety of a person- not just one’s diagnosis and is sensitive to the fact that other factors may contribute to one’s physical and emotional challenges, and incorporate various tools to work with that.
Charisse has always been fascinated with the interactions between the the body and mind, and has always known that this was her dharma. This is reflected in her studies in Exercise Physiology as well as Psychology, and her doctorate in Physical Therapy. Charisse has since specialized in treating the pelvic floor and chronic pain. After obtaining her doctorate, she attended a yoga class and appreciated the physical benefits of the practice as well as the emotional and spiritual aspect that is absent from a regular “ workout”. Charisse obtained her yoga certification RYT-200 in 2015. With this training, she was introduced to the physiological benefits of the quiet, restful, supported practice of restorative yoga.
Charisse now uses the connection of these two disciplines to empower her clients to build physical awareness and to minimize and prevent injuries with the knowledge given.
